Saddlebacking: The new way to God's love [Jan. 28th, 2009|12:43 pm]

[music |The Bad Touch - The Bloodhound Gang]

Okay, so for those who don't read Dan Savage's awesome sex advice column, Savage Love, you really should, because it is quite worthy of your time and vastly amusing. He has just done something entirely awesome.

Now, for a bit of history, back in 2003 the then republican senator from Pennsylvania, Rick Santorum, made some lovely comments about homosexuality that are summarized here. Dan Savage was not pleased. So, through Savage Love, he decided to have a contest for his readers. They were to send in ideas for a new definition of the word santorum. Deviant sex acts, positions, products, etc. The idea was to make santorum known as something that Rick Santorum would absolutely abhor. His readers voted, and we had a new definition of santorum: the frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex. He publicized this on a new website, and asked all his readers to link it everywhere so it would shoot up the google rankings. Quite quickly, it was the number one result for a search on Santorum.

Now a couple of weeks ago, Dan was rather irked by our new president's selection of Rick Warren, an anti-gay evangelical pastor and author of The Purpose-Driven Life, to speak at the Inauguration. In protest, he decided to do another contest along the same lines, this time looking for a definition for the word "saddlebacking", a reference to Rick Warren's Saddleback Church. Well, the new definition is in.

Saddlebacking: the phenomenon of Christian teens engaging in unprotected anal sex in order to preserve their virginities.

If you hate homophobia and anti-gay rights activists as much as I think most of you do. Link the webpage http://www.saddlebacking.com on your blogs, or anywhere you can. Let's send it to the top of google's search results. Yes we can!

My roommate [info]rantmo  just beat me to posting this, but everyone must go watch the Black Dynamite trailer if you want the right to claim you have lived a full life.  That is all.  I have other things to say, but I don't really feel like saying them.  So hah.

I just found out that in 2006 someone somehow got a hold some of my personal information and opened up a credit card in my name that is now in collections.  I just got a phone call from a law firm trying to collect.  Luckily, the guy who called me was actually understanding, helpful, and personable, but this is going to be a fucking nightmare to deal with.

Now I need to go through all of my credit reports and see if anyone else fucked me over.

Yay identity theft!

Prodding you for money [Sep. 16th, 2008|11:53 am]

So, I've gone ahead and created a personal page to raise funds for the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

I know not everyone who will read this agrees with my politics, but for those of you who do, and are blessed enough to have the ability to donate, please follow this link to do so.

In case you didn't know, the DNC and the Obama campaign are two separate entities. The Obama campaign just raises money for the presidential election, while the DNC helps fund all of the House and Senate campaigns. This year is an incredible opportunity for the Democrats to grow their majority in the House, and especially the Senate. There is even a possibility of the Dems hitting the magic 60 seats in the Senate, which would mean that the Republicans couldn't simply filibuster away any bills with which they disagree.

So again, if you have the means and believe in this cause, please be generous. Another opportunity like this will not come again for a long, long time.

Rock on,

Dave or Pants, whichever you want to call me.

What I'd like to here someone tell John McCain [Sep. 5th, 2008|09:41 am]
It's sad, but I used to admire this man as one of the best examples of what Republicans can do in public office. He was for small government, anti-corruption, and wasn't afraid to actually state his mind, even if it did indeed buck the party mantra on the subject.
I've seen absolutely nothing of that man in this campaign, except in speeches. His campaign manager is a Karl Rove disciple, and it really shows. So, what I really want to hear someone, maybe Biden, say to his face is this:

"I knew John McCain. He was a friend of mine. And you, sir, are no John McCain."

It is so sad that he's running the exact same type of campaign that Bush used to defeat him in 2000. Just sad.

This is some of the most disgusting shit I've ever heard of in my life. Please spread it around so more people know what is happening up in the Twin Cities.

I'd make some sort of snarky joke, but really I'm just at a loss for words.

Okay, maybe it's the insomnia or sleep deprivation talking, but this is one of the funniest things I've seen on the intarwebs in quite a long time.

Also, I think I've posted more here in the last two days than I have in probably a year. Odd, considering all that's happened in that time. Doubt I'll explore the reasoning behind that though, since it's all subconscious psychobabble anyway.

By the way, my spellcheck recognizes the word psychobabble as a real word. That is also amusing.

Bleh [Aug. 14th, 2008|07:29 pm]

[mood | apathetic]
[music |Olympic Volleyball]

I'm stuck in a rut. I'm in between terms at school, with just about nothing to do, so I'm doing absolutely nothing. I'm just sitting around, tooling around the interwebs and watching the Olympics. All of my roommates work, so I'm generally alone during the day, and sometimes until late at night. Not good for me.

There's a ton of little things I should be doing, but without the big things, ie. school, to kick me into action, I just leave them undone. Dishes are piling up. I should be starting a job/internship search for after I graduate. I should be dealing with more Cam crap, but I just seem not to care, or forget. It's amazing how fast a day can go by when you're doing absolutely nothing.

I should note, in case anyone is worried about me, that I actually feel fine. My mood is good. I'm just in a rut where I'm spinning my wheels, and it is starting to worry me.

So yeah, any Chicago area peeps with some time to waste, please contact me, and I'll happily waste it for you. Generally, I find that social contact just helps get me going in these situations, and with the apartment empty for 80% of my waking hours that just isn't happening here.

Dear Lord I sound desperate, but yeah, that's just the truth of it. No hard feelings if you don't have the time or don't want to hang out. I'm honestly grateful that this is, on my scale of things, a "bad time." Most people aren't so blessed as I am to actually have time where they have nothing to do. I'm really lucky that I, meaning my family, can afford to pay for me to be a full-time student. I guess I'm just not one of the people who's good with having nothing to do.

So yeah, since I'm writing this stream-of-consciousness anyway, here's another idea for people anywhere who may read this. Ask me for help with something. I'll help write a character background. Write a plotkit. Kill a kitten. If you're local, I'll drive you to help with errands, perhaps to kill a kitten. Anything, really. I think just having a project that isn't one of my own maybe will help, especially if it gets me moving. So yeah, there's that too.

Anyway, hopefully this makes some sort of sense, and I didn't completely abuse the concept of the paragraph. Hopefully hear from some of you. Feel free to call me, if you have my cell number, or ask for it if you don't. Talking on the phone, especially with those of you I don't get to see that often, is always awesome.

I'll shut up now.

Softly rocking the free world,

Pants

[music |Nirvana - All Apologies (Live) - Unplugged in New York]

My grandmother, who I call Nana, has cancer.

Last week, they found a growth on a lymph node in her neck.

On Friday, they biopsied.

This morning, test results came back.

It's malignant.

It's a metastasis from another cancer, they think from her lungs, but more tests to determine the exact cell type are still being run.

She is too old and too weak to handle the aggressive chemotherapy or radiation treatments needed to combat this sort of cancer.  It is almost certain to be fatal.

There are no words.

Trying to start my own meme/chain of LJ entries thingy [May. 20th, 2008|09:16 am]

[mood | giggly]

Okay, so I thought this up a while ago and posted about it, but only one person ever responded.  I'm a stubborn bastard though, so I'm going to try again.

Depressing/dark/emo poetry seems always to be free verse, dark, and without any built-in structure or rhyme scheme.  Common set rhyme scheme structures such as the limerick on the other hand, seem to always be light-hearted and comical.  I think it is very funny when you buck this trend.  Below please find an emo/suicidal limerick.

My life is a pit of despair
My dreams vanished into thin air
I just want to die
Without a tear in my eye
I wonder if someone will care

Now... write your own!  Post!  Post I say!

Respond and I will...

1. Tell you why I friended you.

2. Associate you with something: fandom, a song, a colour, a photo, etc. you know, something degrading.

3. Tell you something I (dis)like about you.

4. Tell you a memory I have of you.

5. Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.

6. Tell you my favorite user pic of yours.

7. In return, you must post this in your LJ.

Tripod is normally a very funny Australian musical comedy group of a sort. They have incredible voices and do lots of gorgeous harmony in the midst of their very silly, hysterical songs. But this is just gorgeous.  I'm almost speechless.  Just watch it... wow.
